Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and let simmer for an hour. Notes Add ground beef and onion, and cook until beef is well browned and crumbled. Drain fat, and transfer beef to a slow cooker. Add cabbage, kidney beans, water, tomato sauce, bouillon, cumin, salt, and pepper.

  1. Cook bacon in a large, round Dutch oven pot until it is crispy. Remove the bacon & drain all but about 2 Tbsp of the fat.

Cover pot with lid, and bring it up to a full boil. Reduce the heat to low and cook the soup until the rice is fully cooked, and cabbage is soft. Remove bay leaf. Add bacon back, & season to taste
  4. Done and ready to serve!

Stir to dissolve bouillon, and cover. In large pot or dutch oven, brown beef and onion. Put ground beef, cabbage, onion, and mushroom in a large stock pot. Brown on medium high heat until ground beef is fully cooked and cabbage is wilted and almost transparent. Add water, beef base, and seasonings.
